Issa Hair Care Regimen

Intro.

As you all know – I love my hair and I do my best to maintain hair health and increase my hair growth. Over the past 7 years, I have actively tried to grow out my hair and I would say that I’ve been keeping up with a consistent regimen for the past 5 years. I often get questions about how I was able to grow out my hair to it’s current length, so I am happy to share my routine and all of the products I use! I will also include prices and functions to help you readers easily discern what’s best for you!

Products

For shampoo, I use Head and Shoulders – which you can purchase at any King Soopers, Target, or Walmart for about $6. I use this shampoo because it smells nice and more importantly, it wards off dandruff! If you are in a dry location or have problems with dandruff, I highly recommend this shampoo. I usually wash my hair once every 2 weeks (which isn’t for everyone).

For conditioner, I use Form Beauty’s Hydrate Moisturizing Conditioner and Curl Mix’s Pure Avocado Moisturizer with Organic Castor Oil for Strengthening Hair! You can purchase the FORM Beauty Conditioner for $26 on their website www.formbeauty.com and you can purchase the Curl Mix Moisturizer on their website www.curlmix.com for $20. I use these conditioners to get moisture into my hair. I live in the extremely dry state of Colorado, and sometimes it feels as if the state is getting even drier. To rectify the effects on my hair, I found these two godsend conditioners and combine them both on each wash day when I am conditioning in the shower. With that being said, it is not necessary to have 2 conditioners, but I do recommend getting at least one of these! I usually condition my hair once a week.

For deep conditioner, I use Africa’s Best – Original’s Olive Oil Deep Conditioner. I love this deep conditioner and I’ve been using it for years. It puts moisture and nutrients back into my hair and it is affordable! You can find this at most black beauty supply stores or on amazon from between $5-10. I use this deep conditioner every other week!

For leave-in, I use products from Curl Mix’s Two-Step Wash and Go, combining the Pure Flaxseed Gel with Organic Hemp Seed Oil for Hair Growth & the Pure Flaxseed Gel with Organic Castor Oil for Strengthening Hair. Both products can be found on Curl Mix’s website www.curlmix.com and the Hair Growth Gel is $26 and the Strengthening Gel is $25. Using the Strengthening gel helps to strengthen my hair and create less of a chance for breakage and the Hair Growth gel increases my hair growth. As far as appearance – both gels help my curls achieve a defined finish! Usually my hair looks good on day 1 and amazing on day 2 after using these products! I use these products on my hair once a week, while it is damp, and after detangling my hair.

For oil, I use Hollywood Beauty’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil. This oil can be found for about $3 at Target. I don’t use this all the time, but when I do, I mainly focus on adding a light oily moisture to my edges and my ends!

Hair Growth Contributors

  1. I only wash or wet my hair with cold water.
  2. For the most part, I keep my hair in a protective style. (For me that is my bun and keeping my ends tucked away).
  3. I try not to straighten my hair more than 5 or 6 times a year, and I’m hoping to get that number even lower this year. Additionally, when I straighten my hair, I don’t use the flat iron again after the first day.
  4. I NEVER sleep without my satin headscarf, bonnet, and my new addition – a satin pillow case. It sounds crazy to have all three of these things I know, but let me explain why. Bonnets are amazing, but the frays on the inside of most satin bonnets are also known to pull at your edges. Because of this, I sleep with the scarf to protect my edges and then put the bonnet on top of the scarf. I also sleep with a satin pillowcase because sometimes I am a wild sleeper, and every now and then both my bonnet and scarf end up completely off my head the next morning LOL. (Also if you don’t want the hassle of wearing a bonnet, you can always just sleep with the satin pillowcase).
  5. I usually give myself 1-2 hours each week to detangle my hair – this could be obsessive but I’d prefer not to rip through and break my hair just to be done detangling faster.
  6. I deep condition on every wash day (whether that’s through using my deep conditioner or keeping my conditioner on for a longer period of time).
  7. I read the labels of everything I put into my hair.
  8. I am consistent with my routine, and have been for years.
  9. Finally, I want to be transparent and say that genetics has been a contributor to my hair growth as well. I say this because whenever I am reading health or beauty regimens or workout plans, I’m always asking myself how much genetics played a role in a person attaining something. My mom’s hair grows fast and so does mine. BUT I will say that my hair didn’t grow past a certain length, and my curls did not become as healthy as they are now until I started my routine. (I will post before and and afters from right before I started using a Hair Care Regimen, and afterwards).
